Electropolishing – faster, milder, greener | Limat | 09.08.08
Electrochemical polishing is not a new method, but nevertheless, as time goes by electropolishing is proving to have significant advantages over other metal polishing methods.
Environmental protection and conservation is an excellent example for the benefits of electropolishing over other polishing methods: as the metal polishing industry struggles to adhere to new, rigorous environmental regulations, electropolishing – whose process emits the least amount of chemicals – has risen as the one method which complies with the ever-increasing demand for environmentally-sound practices; giving it a significant advantage over mechanical metal polishing. Lesser emission means less waste – and fewer expenses.
The number of application for which electropolishing is suited has been increasing steadily over time. The process evolves alongside the industry's changing standards and demands, and is now applied to small and delicate pieces as well; coinciding with the industry's new ability to strip materials 10-25 microns thick off metals.
Smaller and delicate pieces – especially stainless steel ones – emerge from the electropolishing process smoother, shiner and corrosion resistant.
